Tree Planting - February 2008 - Earthworks, St Albans

For the financial year 2006/07, we calculated that we needed to plant 132 trees to offset our carbon dioxide emissions. We found a project with Earthworks in St. Albans, a registered charity that offers trainees, often with learning difficulties or mental health problems, work experience and training in horticultual and land-based skills.

On 22nd February 2007, we travelled to St. Albans in our environmental slogan sweatshirts, ready to plant trees. We were welcomed by the team, then off to the planting! At this site, we planted over 150 small saplings in a pathway that Earthworks had been given the responsibility of caring for and cleaning up. We planted the trees at the sides of the pathway, and also over 10 larger fruit trees in a clearing near the top of the path.
